Should we change the name of the AurynInk to something that is easier to pronounce, spell and remember?

I fell in love with Micheal Ende’s book The Never Ending Story the moment I lay my hands on it. The characters and the theme resonated with me. When the time came to choose a name for the company, I toyed with a bunch of ideas but conceptually Auryn stood out amongst them all. So we registered the company name as Auryn.

The domain was already taken by a band somewhere near New Jersey. As they were a small local band doing gigs on the side, they happily agreed to sell us the name. We have stuck with the name for the last 12 years and I still believe that its a good name for a company.

But is the name as good for a product? I am beginning to have my doubts. During the thanksgiving dinner, a dear friend who loves Auryn Ink was introducing me and Ink to another guest. He didn’t  pronounce the name correctly and also needed help with the spelling. I speak to many people about the company and products that we have created and 8 out of 10 people find the name difficult to pronounce. I have often  wondered – how does someone who likes the app pronounce it when telling a friend about it over the phone? Can the friend remember the name well enough to search for it in app stores?

So my question to you is, should we change the name of the app to something that is easy to pronounce, spell and remember? I look forward to your feedback and suggestions if you have any.
